At the first Genevive Magazine Beauty Awards, a young shining star won the grand prize for Emerging Beauty Entrepreneur, Ifeyinwa Ojekwe of Ajali who walked away with the title and 5000 euros.
But who is Ajali?
Well, they are an all-natural, completely handmade cosmetics brand established in August 2013 to promote local industry and create awareness for living a healthy life. Their brand ethos is simple – believing that beauty can be effective as well as pure and most importantly safe. They take pride in partnering with local farms handpicking fresh vegetables, fruits and herbs to provide you with raw skincare recipes for your whole self. A just under 14 months after the brand was launched, Ebony Life TV awarded AJALI with the award for ‘Best Made in Nigeria Product of the Year’. Not bad eh?
Ife had a major health scare in 2012 that made her more conscious about what she was putting in and on her body. She said:
I decided to eat better, stop relaxing my hair, and pay more attention to my cosmetics. I started off making moisturisers and soaps from recipes I found online and soon after that, word-of-mouth kicked in. I found myself making products for my family and friends and in August 2013 I decided to brand it and here Ajali is.
‘Ajali’s vision is to encourage an alternative solution to body and skincare through the creation of luxury organic products that are as effective as they are ethical. We believe in no-compromise beauty. ”
We are a proudly African company and thrive to share all the resources this continent has been blessed with, with the rest of world. We only use the finest natural plant and mineral ingredients, wild-harvested in remote, untainted regions by artisan producers who value traditional, sustainable practices.
We pride ourselves on creating remarkably effective natural products with the highest degree of ethical integrity. Such that everyone involved in the process from our local farmers in the villages to our trusted suppliers are remunerated fairly and treated with respect. In addition to being completely free from synthetic chemicals, our handmade products harness nature’s purest vibrancy through use of the finest raw ingredients, grown and harvested by artisan producers in harmony with nature and local communities.’
The first time I came across Ajali I was struck by how well the brand had been put together. From the beautiful packaging to the thoughtful holistic combination of the ingredients. It looked, felt and smelled like it could have been produced and sold in high end stores any where in the world. But it was hand made, here in Nigeria using mostly locally sourced raw products. But to further extend the experience, they also launched a beauty treatment room in their Lekki Showroom.
They literally have an entire range of gorgerous hand made natural hair & body butters, sugar body scrubs, lip scrubs, lip balms, face masks and oils which I can honestly say make fantastic gifts or even just to pamper yourself.
We’re giving away a fabulous goodie bag with a yummy hand made body scrub and lip balm to one lucky winner. All you have to do to enter the competition is:
