The brand is a dream turned into reality by it’s founder Toyin Oniru. A qualified lawyer she relocated from the UK to Nigeria in 2007 after getting her BA in Politics and a second degree in Law at Brunel University, London.
Inner Beautee began in 2012, through her love and the passion of all things natural and in the search for a more organic lifestyle. She says that
After discovering the damaging effects of harsh chemicals and parabens to our bodies and health I made a conscious effort to seek foods and cosmetics for my family that were free from such harmful substances. Being a Muslim our diet already requires that we eat the healthiest form of poultry. Eating a halal menu, and living in a tropical country with easy access to fresh fruits and vegetables, I had a huge advantage. However natural, organic cosmetics were not so widely available, which is how my personal pleasure of blending oils and butters found its place in the industry.
We make the products suitable for where we live and are also on par with global cosmetic brands like nail polish and candles, we grew and we have expanded. We have a dedicated baby care range for nappy rash; maternity care such as the nipple balm and stretch marks. We also have the men’s collection which includes beard butter and beard oil.
Initial Impression / Branding
There are alot of new companies popping up over the last two years offering handmade natural products with most of them focusing on shea butter blends. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but when I received the products I was definitely impressed. You could see care and thought had gone into the brand. There was a wide variety of products, not just whipped shea butter and pressed coconut oil based blends. They use alot of essential oils and the packaging is also quite sturdy. I hate receiving products that you just know everything’s going to spill out because the lid doesn’t close properly or that the labels start peeling off after a while. That is definitely not the case here. They could sit next to Shea Moisture or Body Shop any international brand out there, and you couldn’t point out that ‘yup.. that’s the Nigerian brand right there’ lol
I was really looking forward to testing out the products and I wasn’t disappointed. First of all, the whipped shea butter cream was so light and fluffy! It was really creamy and didn’t leave my skin or hair feeling greasy. You can also mix in any essential oils and custom blend it to your preference at home which is great for those who get easily irritated by smells (me!).
Lemon Zest Sugar Scrub
The little product sure packs a punch! I wasn’t expecting the amazing scent that assaulted me when I opened up the lid. It smelt GORGEOUS! I literally wanted to eat it!!
As far as Sugar Scrubs go, sometimes they’re too oily, sometimes they’re too dry. This baby is nice and juicy. I could really feel the oils without leaving myself and my bathtub slippery!
Lemon’s have been used for centuries to lighten hair and skin and sugar scrubs help to exfoliate while nourishing to get rid of dead dull skin.
The brand has a very stern stance against bleaching which I was really pleased to hear about as a natural therapist but there are organic ways of brightening and toning your skin so that you have an even complexion. I would use this all over my body and focus on my feet, arms and chest. This lagos sun isn’t for kids. My feet don’t belong to my thighs anymore, they’re like two different people! I recommend using a strong SPF to protect yourself against the sun. I’ve started using an SPF 110, it’s that serious!
This is definitely something that i’d buy again and gift out to people.
Value for Money
The products come in various sizes and are all in my opinion good value. Knowing that they’re all handmade and use truly organic products, you would pay an arm and a leg abroad for them.
Body Butter: (50 ml) – N1,500 (300 ml) – N5,500
Lemon Zest (50 ml) – N2,500
I really like this brand, they have a nice range and they’re a pleasure to use. I would be happy to stock them at my store as I have confidence in the quality and value for money!
